The way we make decisions will change thoroughly, as we argue in this book. And, from our point of view, chief financial officers (CFOs) should be tasked with pushing this process in the right direction. This not only requires sound data, good systems, and good algorithms (roughly the subject of Chapter 6), but also calls for fundamentally altering decision-making processes, in line with the modus operandi at Formula 1 teams. It means that other types of information must also be taken into account to live up to the promise of forward-looking analysis; it means that human ‘herd animal’ errors are to be suppressed; and it calls for a whole new cooperation between humans and smart machines. How could these three major issues be addressed?
